Steel
Riders .. a journey of the spirit.

This
site is dedicated to all motorcycle riders that enjoy finding a new
road, and
sharing their favorite routes with friends.
Our group is based in Springfield, MO and normally travels the back roads of southern Missouri
and northern Arkansas.

STEEL RIDERS SITE HAS MOVED !!!!
I am sorry to announce that I will no longer be
keeping a Steel Riders site at this address. However, the wonderful news
is that our friend Matt has created a site where we will still post pictures and
schedules. Essentially the site is moving, and will have a little
different look. Please go to this address to find the new site, and just
"join group" for access.

I feel a short explanation is needed, as many
people that know parts of the story have questions. It has been a very
difficult decision, but I have decided to get off the bike. I am selling
my bike and do not plan to purchase another. I absolutely LOVE the people
in this group. Each has a unique perspective about life, nature, and
riding. Each adds that special spice to the group that makes it fun to be
a part of our rides. For me the joy has always been and will remain the
people of the group. The other joy is the scenery. There is no place
on earth quite like the Ozarks, and I dearly love traveling the back roads and
exploring the natural splendor of God's creations. I love the sights,
smells, and sounds of being out in nature. At one time I loved being on
the bike for all this, but that has changed. I would like to say something
profound and meaningful, but the truth is I no longer enjoy being on the
bike. There is a voice in my head that keeps saying "get off the
bike". I don't know if it is the good Lord trying to warn me, or just
my own fear pushing to the front, but I have decided to get off the bike.
I am planning to buy a Jeep Wrangler for my future back road adventures, and
with any luck at all will attend some rides as the official chase truck.
Who knows, I may even lead a few rides again. However, since I will not
attend the majority of rides it seemed unlikely I would find time to keep up
with the site. Matt has stepped up and solved that issue, for which I am
VERY thankful.
Please remember that I love each member of this
group and each ride I miss pains me. God bless you all and be careful.

A BRIEF HISTORY
In the Spring of 2003 several of us that work together discovered that we had something in
common that was somewhat unexpected. We each had an itch
that had not been scratched in far too long (be it months or years). That
itch was to ride our motorcycles. Some
had just purchased a new bike, others had an old bike with new life, and still
others were just looking for a good excuse to get out and ride again.
The more we
talked about riding the more we realized that a group of interested people were
coming together. We soon decided to start getting together for a regular group ride. Without much formal
planning a small group of riders was created and we were on the verge of becoming
a regular club.
This site was created to share the adventures of our group, and to provide information
to other riders that share our passion. We hope to share more of our
photos, record a few of our favorite ride destinations, and perhaps post a few
articles by group members. If you have anything to share please drop us a
note.
In December of 2004 we found out
that our original name "Steel Riders Motorcycle Club" was already in
use by a group in Texas. They were somewhat upset about the name
duplication and asked over the course of several discussions that we consider
altering the "Motorcycle Club" part of our name. We
discussed a couple of options for replacing the MC, but decided to just go
without one. It
was at that time that we shortened our name and became just the
"Steel Riders". A name change seemed like the honorable thing to do,
as we place a priority on maintaining good relations with other groups. We
have learned since then that the "MC" in a group name is a very
protected and honored distinction among the most serious of bikers.
Changing our name was a wise choice indeed, because if not it would have
eventually caused serious trouble.

DESTINATIONS
Most
of our rides consist of finding an "out of the way" restaurant that has an
interesting road between it and Springfield MO. This has worked out well
so far and I suspect we will continue with this rather simple recipe for most of
our rides.
Our normal group ride takes place after work and
that means we have limited time for the ride. These shorter rides are an excuse to
ride together and chat over some good food. We will list these shorter
rides as "Evening Rides", but they are good additions to your longer
adventures.
We seem to come up with lots of great
ideas for rides that are too long for us to do them after work. Many of us
also have
favorite routes that go a bit farther and require a bit more time.
These longer rides will be listed as "Weekend
Rides".

NATURE PHOTOS
We all enjoy
the sites on a good ride. Several of us take pictures on our rides and many are worth sharing for one reason or
another. I will try to post as many pictures here as possible. Space
is limited so some pictures may be posted smaller than you would like. If
you would like to view a larger version just let me know and I will send you
a larger version of the the picture.

GROUP PHOTOS
If your
memory is getting a little fuzzy then you can appreciate pictures as much as we
do. We tend to forget who was on a certain ride, or even which rides we
took. Our group photos help remind us of what we did and who was with
us. It also reminds us that laughter and good conversation with friends is
what got this club started.

SPECIAL FEATURES
This area is reserved for articles and
such. Some in our group enjoy writing about the joys of a ride, and others
like to pass along general information about maintenance, riding techniques,
etc. We will occasionally post something here that we feel is of interest
to the group or other visitors to the site.

I was forced to reload the entire page and lost
my counter progress. Add about 5500 to whatever is shown.
